Karl Slaughter Bradford (1889-1972)
Born in Washington, D.C. on June 28, 1889.
Commissioned in the Cavalry from West Point in 1911.
Served in the Operations Division of the War Department General Staff 1918-1919. Graduated from Command and General Staff School in 1926. Professor of Military Science and Tactics at Massachusetts Agricultural College 1930-1931. Instructor at the Cavalry School 1934-1936. Graduated from the Army War College in 1937.
Brigadier General in April 1941. Commanding General of 1st Cavalry Brigade 1941-1943. Deputy Director of the War Department Manpower Board 1943-1946.
Retired in December 1946. Decorations included the Legion of Merit.
Died on August 15, 1972.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
