Ivory G. Kimball was born on May 5, 1843. He served in the Civil War as a Private, 55th Indiana Volunteer Infantry.
After the war he was a lawyer and a judge, but was most involved as an Officer of the Grand Army of the Republic. As such, he was instrumental in the design and building of the Memorial Amphitheater at Arlington National Cemetery. He lobbied Congress long and hard for the funds. He died on May 15, 1916 and was buried in Section 3 of Arlington National Cemetery.
His wife, Anna L. Kimball (1843-1931), who he married in 1861, is buried with him.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
