COWAN, THOMAS, Jr.. 1st Lieutenant, Company B, 3rd Regiment, N.C. Troops. Resided in Brunswick County and appointed 2nd Lieutenant to rank from May 16, 1861. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant on July 1, 1862. Wounded and captured at Sharpsburg, Maryland, September 17, 1862, and died  in hospital at Washington, D.C., October 4, 1862. ."
